Lusail, Qatar – French President Emmanuel Macron was in attendance for the 2022 FIFA World Cup final at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday, where he watched his country’s national team fall to Argentina in a closely contested match.
After the game, Macron took the time to console the French players, including star striker Kylian Mbappe. Speaking to reporters, the president said, “I was as sad as [Mbappe], but I told him he had made us all very proud.”
Mbappe, who has emerged as one of the top players in the world in recent years, was understandably disappointed after the defeat. However, Macron’s words will no doubt provide some comfort to the young star, who has a bright future ahead of him.
The French team put in a valiant effort against Argentina, but ultimately came up short in the final. Despite the loss, the players can hold their heads high knowing that they gave it their all on the pitch.
As for Macron, he will no doubt continue to support the national team as they look to bounce back from this disappointment and build towards future success.
